Can I afford a lawyer?
The more accurate question is can I afford to not have a lawyer? In regards to criminal cases you may represent yourself. You will be forced to go against a skilled prosecutor. Without legal representation, chances are the outcome of your case will not be favorable.
When do I need a lawyer?
The sooner the better. Prior to a formal charge being filed by the prosecutor, an attorney can contact the prosecutor to discuss the case and present your side. Often times, this additional information helps the prosecutor to decide whether a reduced charge is appropriate or if a charge should be filed at all.
Do I need an experienced attorney?
An inexperienced attorney may charge less, but you get what you pay for. Do not put your future at risk. Hire an attorney that has the knowledge and experience to help your situation.
Do I need to attend court?
If the charge is a felony, you must appear unless your attorney files a written waiver of presence. If your charges are misdemeanors or traffic infractions, then there are ways for your lawyer to handle the case without your presence being required.
How much will representation cost?
On personal injury cases, the attorney fees are contingent on the recovery. So if there is no recovery, then no attorney fees are due. Criminal/traffic cases are quoted on a case by case basis.
